The original Nanoichi Rei 'Game'

Nanoichi Rei (then Nano Ninja Rei) was originally a video game project I put together back in college. The game was designed as a 2D side scrolling shooter/Mega Man clone featuring Rei as the playable character. However due to time constraints, the game was never intended to be fully realized. What I managed to finish was a very buggy proof-of-concept. The game was programmed in C using SDL libraries, while the sprites were done mostly with Blender (version 2.42 if I remember).

These are just a couple of screen grabs from the original game project.

As mentioned, the 'game' is incredibly buggy and seems to crash entirely at random. However, I have not left out the possibility of starting this project over. But for now, I'll stick with bringing her to life with Blender.

I created a cover image featuring the movie logo and Rei herself.

NOTE: To view videos, your 3DS must have the 3D video recorder/player update.

Adding videos to your 3DS:

  1. Mount your Nintendo 3DS SD card.
  2. Open the folder 'DCIM'
  3. In /DCIM/, there are subfolders under the naming scheme 'xxxNINxx' where xxx are numericals. ex: 100NIN03, 101NIN03.
  4. Copy the AVI file directly into the folder the highest numbered folder.
  5. Reinsert your SD card back into your 3DS and turn it on.
  6. Open the Camera program.
  7. Click on View Photos/Videos.
  8. It will display 'Updating Managment File', let it finish this process.
  9. The video should be a new thumbnail in your gallery.
Unfortunately the video file seems to be tagged as created in 1900, so it will most likely appear in the very beginning of the gallery. I'm still trying to figure out why this is. If anyone has any info on that, I'd be very grateful. Enjoy!
